@Alan Re: Modelling heads

Hi Alan,

Would it be possible to upload the tutorials on modelling heads so I could see if it is at all possible to create a 3D marionette in my environment in time?

Thanks
Oliver

  1. I think I know the answer to this, Ollie... however, in the past, we have had students 'buy in' a human model or similar to augment their scenes - on the understanding that, rather like a quote in an essay, the model is clearly described as 'not' by the submitting student. The other answer is to go for a more suggestive or stylised approach for the marionette - for instance, a very simple shape, wherein all the detail is produced as a texture; the point about dolls/puppets etc. is their 'creepiness' can result from their simplification; please, do not get caught up in the wrong emphasis;

    for example, see

  2. Hi Oliver,

    I've uploaded to MyUCA a 50 frame blueprint animation (one quarter turn) of the head. Open it in Fcheck and select 'Full Resolution'to view.

    However, as I mentioned in class, don't let this head become the focus of your project. Your efforts could be better spend else where. Making and texturing your scene to a high level for example.

    Warning! - We don't want to see a nice head in a badly made and conceived environment.

  3. Don't worry, I am listening :)

    The marionette will be the last thing I model, if I can fit it in at all around everything else and always with subtlety and the uncanny in mind.

    Thank you :)
