FAO CGAA Yr 1: Unit 4/Story-Telling - Your Writing Partners Revealed

It's time to reveal the purpose of that mysterious draw of random numbers at Friday's crit. Okay, so you've got your 3 story components, but as part of your story development process, you'll be working with a writing partner - a sounding board and 'critical friend' - someone who will follow your progress specifically and help with lateral thinking, idea generation and constructive feedback The numbers drawn from the 'blue box' relate to your respective positions on the year group register - and the resulting partnerships are as follows:

  • Chris + Paul-Arthur
  • Adam + Molly
  • Oliver + Sasha
  • Dmitrij + Naomi
  • Sean D-R + Domantas
  • Jonathan S + Max
  • Jonathan P + Paul L
  • Conor + Oriskolade
  • Sam + Nat
  • Dayle + Kay D
  • Ryan + Katy
  • Andriana + Michael H
  • Roy + Alex Z-P
  • Lyn-Dae + Dan
  • Justin + Sean B + Aidan

Note - this isn't a group project - you are pre-producing your own 1 minute animation - but you are required to collaborate and work in partnership. Of course, the specific nature of your partnership does not mean you shouldn't interact with everyone else's development too via the blogs etc. Importantly, I want you to establish a way of archiving your collaborations - obviously though blog-based 'conversations' and comment threads - but you should be meeting face-to-face, engaging in workshops and creative discussion - and find interesting and dynamic ways of chronicling those sessions.

I very much look forward to some fruitful collaborations - go say "hi" and get stuck in.

  1. Hey Phil, this sounds like fun! I think the idea of partnership should be seen throughout the overall 3 years depending how bad it can be sometime. However I I wish the 1st year a good Unit 4.

Dont forget something, your animation can be good but a good story-telling and character design that clearly fits your world is more important!

    Good luck you all!

  3. Hey Rubes - great minds think alike - I'm going to embed this video on the group blog later this weekend - for exactly this purpose. It was good to see you (albeit) briefly at the crit yesterday. I look forward to catching up with you during the transcription project. I really enjoyed your trailer though - it made me 'laugh out loud'...

  9. Let me Guess!
'Film Directing Shot By Shot' by Steven Katz, this book is a must have for this unit, better if quickly grab the copy in the library, if you dont want to buy one, it is really useful for staging and storyboarding your ideas and camera angles.
