Maya Problem - Maya Batch randomly stops!

Hell0 all,
Another problem that you guys can hopefully help with...

I'm trying to render out my scenes, but Maya Batch is giving me a really hard time. The render just stops randomly. It then says render complete at the bottom when its clearly not. It doesn't even need to finish the frame its doing, it just stops.

It could be any where, 3 frames or 200, just stops...

Any idea why?

  1. Is this when you are rendering using hardware or software (it's been documented that mental ray has a tendency to flake out after you've been jumping between the two - although this may have no relevance what so ever)

  2. The most immediate advice I can give you is to

    A) Delete the history on all objects
    B) Clean up your scene 'File Optimize Scene'
    C) Save your file (Copy) and go through deleting objects and batch rendering to see if there is a particular object with a problem.

  3. Batch render is prone to memory issues. Low memory issues that is. If you're rendering in mental ray this will even get worse.

There is a little extension plugin for the maya render window which also lets you render frame ranges that can be automatically saved. This often fixes the memory problems and renders only very slightly slower. Look for "RenderView_extension_1.9". It used to work for maya 2009, there might be a new version now.

  4. I read up about the memory but I ruled that out since I have 6gb of RAM with nothing else going on. I was able to render it out by changing the image format. I was using tiff, so I changed to iff and it worked

  5. When I render i get a message that there's no disk in drive and it asks me to insert a disk to continue. I have to click retry or continue everytime a frame finishes rendering in order to move to the next frame. Does anyone know how to solve this issue in maya 2012?
