ACT 2: Project Requiem @ Zandra Rhodes Gallery, UCA Rochester

The seven sculptures comprising Project Requiem, the second of our ACT collaborations, have been exhibited in the Zandra Rhodes Gallery at UCA Rochester.

"In November 2013, Arie van Beek agreed to wear motion sensors while he conducted a performance of Verdi's Requiem. The data produced from van Beek's moment-to-moment movement was translated by computer into a series of seven three-dimensional curves representing the main sections of the Requiem. Students on BA (Hons) Computer Animation Arts used the seven digital curves to generate computer-generated synesthetic forms that reflected their own impressions from listening to Verdi's Requiem. The resulting forms were then translated again - from virtual shapes on screen into seven physical sculptures laser-cut from sheet steel."
